Pastor of Worship and Discipleship

Calvary Baptist Church is located in suburban Coquitlam, BC, about 30 minutes east of downtown Vancouver. We are an active member of the Baptist Conference of British Columbia (BCBC) and the Baptist General Conference of Canada (BGC) with a congregation of about 200. We are a Christ-centered, egalitarian, cross-cultural and inter-generational community called to model unity and to live prayerfully, generously and redemptively in a broken world. Calvary has a young, talented, passionate staff of pastors, interns and an office administrator who have led us through many changes, including leadership turnovers and the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have a multigenerational Elders Council of men and women who serve with heartfelt integrity.

Position Summary:

The Pastor of Worship and Discipleship of Calvary Baptist Church will be responsible to oversee
and give leadership in the areas of worship and discipleship (i.e. community groups). They will
contribute towards the fulfillment of Calvary Baptist Church’s purpose and mission, alignment of
values, and the realization of its goals. The position is accountable to the Lead Pastor and works
collaboratively with the Elders Council in their role as pastor and as a member of Calvary Baptist
Church.

Qualifications:

  • Meets the qualifications of an elder:
    • His/her life shall substantially demonstrate and aspire to qualities expressed in 1
      Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Galatians 5:22-26.
    • He/she is a spiritual leader who has a heart for our Core Values.
    • He/she shall demonstrate financial stewardship, desire to serve God's people and
      have leadership abilities.
    • He/she nurtures strong relationships with the congregation and models service and
      the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • Theology agrees with Calvary’s statement of faith

  • Education and Experience:
    • Holds a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University.
    • Has Pastoral / Church leadership experience, preferably having served as a pastor.
    • Holds credentials, or is willing to be credentialed, with the Baptist General
      Conference.
  • Worship Ministry Skills:
    • Motivates and inspires people to worship God through a variety of means, including
      contemporary music and traditional hymns.
    • Plays the role of main worship leader as well as shares the stage to provide
      opportunities for others to grow in their giftings and leadership.
    • Oversees the sound and media teams, including live streaming services.
    • Draws in and raises up the next generation for the worship and media teams.
  • Discipleship Ministry and Community Building Skills:
    • Understands the importance of community/small groups in the life of believers and
      vitality of the church and is able to build and maintain a healthy small group ministry.
    • Clearly communicates the vision and missional priorities of the church while
      mobilizing individuals to connect with others in the community towards building a
      welcoming Jesus-centered community of faith.
    • Effectively communicates in one-on-one and one-to-many situations.
    • Demonstrates proficiency with biblical conflict resolution with strong people skills.
    • Embraces a cross-cultural ministry.
    • Helps to organize and encourages the church to be involved with impactful
      community events.
  • Pastoral Care, Administrative & Leadership Skills:
    • Develops and leads a team of volunteers to organize and execute the church
      priorities of Worship, Community and Discipleship, ensuring that required skills are
      developed.
    • Deploys people in their areas of strength and keeps them accountable to the vision
      and goals of the church.
    • Establishes and promotes teamwork and relationships when working with staff and
      volunteers.
    • Champions and guards the spiritual and doctrinal values of the Church.

 

Compensation:


Salary will be commensurate with experience and education
