On Tuesday August 23, the youth group (grades 6-12) will be heading to Golden Ears Park for a single night of overnight camping. We will be hiking 4.7 Km from Gold Creek/ East Canyon parking lot on the East Canyon Trail and heading to Hiker’s Beach. The elevation change is minimal. This is comparable to a hike around Mundy Park. Right now we have an 8 person tent for the girls, but we need at least one more tent for the guys. Please let me know if you can send one. Here is a list of everything that you should bring with you.

  • Tent (or come with someone who will have one)
  • Sleeping bag down to 10 Celsius
  • You might want a sleeping mat for comfort.  Or you might get lucky and set your tent up on the sand
  • Back Pack
  • Sweater
  • Toiletries (ie. TP, unscented hand sanitizer, tooth brush/ paste)   (Deoderent attracts wildlife)
  • Rope/ para-chord (to hang up food… bring a bag to hang up your food) (Jord will help you hang the food)
  • Bring food (ie. Instant oatmeal/ power bars/ sandwiches)
  • Bring water (Jord will have tablets to make the river water safe to drink)
  • Flash light or head lamp
  • If its raining, bring appropriate rain attire
  • Wear wool socks for the hike in
  • Jord will have first-aid/ blister bandages/ a small stove and kettle
  • You should have all of your own food covered

We currently have enough chaperones, but if you wanna come with your family just let me know. Space is limited. You can book back country camping for a single night here on August 9th. The system only allows bookings two weeks away. The cost for booking is $5.
